在民用建筑设计中低压断路器主要用于线路的过载、短路、过电流、失压、欠压、接地、漏电、双电源自动切换及电动机的不频繁起动时的保护、操作等用途，其选择原则除遵守低压电器设备的使用环境特征等基本原则（见工业与民用配电设计手册）外尚应考虑如下条件：
In the design of civil architecture, low voltage circuit breakers are mainly used for overload, short circuit, overcurrent, loss of voltage, undervoltage, grounding, leakage, automatic switching of double power supply, protection and operation when the motor is incipient starting. The principle of selection is to observe the basic principles of the use of the low voltage electrical equipment and other basic principles. In addition, the following conditions should be considered:
1） 断路器的额定电压不应小于线路额定电压；
1) the rated voltage of the circuit breaker should not be less than the rated voltage of the line.
2） 断路器额定电流与过流脱扣器的额定电流不小于线路的计算电流；
2) the rated current of the circuit breaker and the rated current of the overcurrent release are not less than the calculated current of the circuit.
3） 断路器的额定短路分断能力不小于线路中大短路电流；
3) the rated short-circuit breaking capacity of the circuit breaker is not less than the maximum short-circuit current in the circuit.
4） 选择型配电断路器需考虑短延时短路通断能力和延时保护级间配合；
4) the choice of distribution circuit breakers should consider short delay, short circuit breaking capacity and delay protection level coordination.
5） 断路器欠压脱扣器额定电压等于线路额定电压；
5) the rated voltage of circuit breaker under voltage release is equal to line rated voltage.
6） 当用于电动机保护时，则选择断路器需考虑电动机的起动电流并使之在起动时间内不动作；设计计算见“工业与民用配电设计手册”；

7） 断路器选择还应考虑断路器与断路器、断路器与熔断器的选择性配合。
