“秦半两”是在秦始皇在统一六国后，确定统一法律、度量衡、货币和文字，废止了战国后期六国旧钱，在战国秦半两钱的基础上加以改进，推行的货币，它以圆形方孔的秦半两钱在全国通行，结束了我国古代货币形状各异、重量悬殊的杂乱状态。它的出现，标志着秦始皇在货币上的大一统，还标志着中国古代钱币的初步成熟，是中国货币发展过程中的一个里程碑，并影响到相邻国家和地区，具有非凡的历史意义。"秦半两"奠定"圆形方孔"的古钱币造型。"圆形方孔"钱币成为古代中国货币的基本形式，贯穿中国封建社会，沿用了两千多年。
