Kaiyuan Tongbao was the currency of the Tang Dynasty. Coins began to have " Tongbao" in the Tang Dynasty. At the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, the Sui and Five baht were used, with little confusion and confusion. For four years in Wude, Tang Gaozu, the original " Kaiyuan Tongbao" was inscribed by calligrapher Ou Yangxun in order to rectify the chaotic monetary system and scrap Sui money.
In terms of quality, the average Kaiyuan Tongbao weighs one dollar per article, one or two cents per ten articles, and six catties and four ounces per penetration ( i.e., one thousand articles ). Each article weighs two baht and four silk, equivalent to about 4g. However, during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, the copper material of Kaiyuan Tongbao increased by one to twenty percent due to its prosperous time. The quality of Kaiyuan Tongbao at this time was about 4.5g to 5g, so the heavy Kaiyuan Tongbao was mostly cast at this time. In style, there was no writing on the back of Tongbao in the early Tang Dynasty, star, moon and other decorations began to appear on the back of money in the middle Tang Dynasty, while the name of money bureau was added to the back of money in the late Tang Dynasty. After more than 300 years of casting, the edition is complicated. After the Tang Dynasty, there were still smelting and casting, but the styles were mostly different from those of the Tang Dynasty. In terms of specifications, Kaiyuan Tongbao is basically small flat money, but in the Tang Dynasty, a small amount of " Kaiyuan Tongbao" was also cast with ten big money, which belongs to the nature of opening a furnace to commemorate the occasion and is also forged by future generations.
