1911年辛亥革命胜利后,中华民国政府宣告成立,清朝灭亡,在中国持续2000 多年的封建君主专制随之结束。民国成立时,由于币制尚未建立,除四川改铸大汉银币,福建改铸中华元宝外,主要的造币厂,大都仍沿用前清钢模铸造银币,以供流通需要。
光绪元宝为清代货币,光绪年间铸行金、银币较多。当时正值洋务运动时期,这股思潮也影响到了铸币业,两广总督张之洞曾于光绪十三年委托使英大臣在英国订购 全套造币机器,并在广东钱局首铸机制银元和铜元。其后,各省纷纷仿效,购制国外机械铸造银,这也使得使银币沾染上西方色彩。

此枚藏品广东省造光绪元宝“库平一钱四分四厘”,藏品直径:2.3cm。钱面:珠圈中满汉文“光绪元宝”四字,圈外上环“广东省造”,下环“库平一钱四分四厘”。钱背:中心为蟠龙图案,上下环英文:KWANG-TUNG PROVINCE(广东省造),1 MACE AND 4.4 CANDAREENS(一钱四分四厘),左右各一十字星。
