2012年9月7日，印度通讯与信息技术部在政府公报发布《电子和信息技术产品（强制性注册要求）法令，2012》。该法令将自公报发布之日起6个月后生效，即2013年3月7号开始正式生效，届时不符合要求的产品都将无法进入印度市场。 法令规定，电子和信息技术产品必须符合指定标准，且经相关主管部门注册，附带“自我声明-符合IS标准”字样。法令还对样本抽取和测试做了相关规定。15类产品需符合的特定安全标准具体如下：
